For the month of February I decided was going to give up Facebook. It’s not something that took a lot of thought and contemplation. I have a love hate relationship with social networking sites in general. I’ve quit Facebook several times and always come back because it is an easy way to kill time. It’s only been two days and I am already reaping the benefits of not logging in. I have a lot of negative nelly friends (sorry people) and reading your shitty posts really bums me out. I am having serious reservations if I will even come back after this month is over. I think my mental health is so much better not being on that site. I love you all, but text me or call me.

A new form of blogfest (for me anyway)
Last November I participated in a blogfest. It was a collective of people, many of whom I’ve never met blogging every day. I’ll be the first to admit I made it about 22 days before I threw in the towel. I went into it with all these expectations of finding my voice and really growing from it. All I gained was frustrations. I felt like I could never say what I wanted. I was too critical of my writing like it was going to be this great novel. My friend snapped me out of it by reminding me that “it’s just a fucking blog dude. Just write, it won’t get read anyway.” He was right, this will get read by maybe 10 people if I am lucky and I know all 10 of you and you know me on a level deeper than I can write. So what do I have to prove anyway? I am raw unedited and at times pretty damn vulgar. I might bitch and moan one day on here and hell I might even talk about my feelings too! For the month of February it’s going to be the real me. If the vulgarity bothers you, too fucking bad deal with it. I am only out to please myself this month, pun intended.

Dusk
We have to live with our mistakes.
Will we ever see our dreams again?
Will this dark night ever end?
These are the restless times..
..these are the sleepless nights.

The State of My Generation Address
I am sickened and ashamed of my generation. I look at how far we have come as a civilization and scratch my head at how ignorant we truly are. My generation has every advantage and opportunity to do great things and we blow it watching Jersey Shore and other shit shows of the sort. It kind of makes sense that when given the chance to dumb down we take it. It’s easy. Getting involved and educated is hard work, and who wants to work for anything right? We want it all and we want it now, no work required. That’s the American way right?
My beef with these so called “reality” shows is that they are not reality. 99% of the populace doesn’t live that way, and if you think they do something is seriously wrong with you. There is some entertainment value, don’t get me wrong. Nothing about these shows should ever be looked to with any seriousness. Watch these shows if you want, just don’t let them consume your life. I know every single one of my friends is a lot more interesting than anyone on Jersey Shore, or any of the Kardashians. If you ever think any of these people are better or have it better than you, get help right away.
It just breaks my heart that I hear people talking about these shows instead of relevant current events. The world is an ugly/beautiful place. The things that happen can be truly great and absolutely horrible but they need to be talked about. I was saddened and disappointed to see that Jersey Shore and The Bachelor were talked about almost at a 10-1 ratio the past two days compared to the tragedy in AZ. It might be ugly but it’s better than the trivial.
*I have never watched a full episode of any of these reality shows. I most likely won’t ever watch them either.

Being set up and my conditions for such treason
If you’ve been single at any point in your life for a considerable amount of time, then chances are you’ve been set up. There are two types of set ups, if you can think of a third one let me know. You have the agreed upon set up where your friends tell you they want to set you up and you go into it best foot forward. The other one I like to call the ambush set up. You agree to meet your friends somewhere and when you get there the set up is already there and you’re like what the heck is going on or they show up after you and your friends try to play like it’s a coincidence. I hate this because it catches you off guard and you’re not in control of the first impression. I was recently the victim of an ambush set up with disastrous results. A friend called and asked to hang out and when I get there I know right away this is a set up just by his stupid shit eating grin he had. This girl could not have been more wrong for me, the only thing we had in common was being single. Turns out this girl is like the permanent third wheel to him and his girlfriend and he wanted me to isolate her. Why couldn’t he just tell me that from the start? I’ll jump on the grenade for a friend if I need to.
With that being said friends, if you feel the need to do a set up for me please consider the following:
Let me know and tell me why you think we should be set up and if I say no respect that.
If you’re going to ambush me please do your due diligence when “mating” us together.
Things I want in a “partner” include being 2nd amendment friendly, not a tree hugging liberal, has values and class but isn’t so uptight she can’t cut loose every once in a while, no substance abuse problems except maybe coffee, loves music and going to concerts, not a couch potato since I like to hike, mtn bike and camp, has no problem with kids and no problem with possibly never having kids of her own. If you think this person would make me a better person I am game but if you don’t have that confidence don’t bother.

Even the slightest bit of negativity can have great consequences
Tonight was my works Christmas party. The festivities were being held in a banquet room at the Utah Jazz basketball game. I’ll admit I had a pretty negative attitude about the whole thing and wasn’t even sure if I was going all day. Last minute I decided I was going. I go to the Trax station by my house, purchase my round trip ticket for $4 and wait for the train. I get on it and two stops later the Transit police get on and check for tickets. Somewhere between the kiosk and the train I lost my ticket. The officer is standing there while I am checking all my pockets and says to me I’ll be back so you can have some time to find it. He goes and checks the car and comes back to me and no ticket. I empty my pockets out on the seat and he sees the one dollar coin the kiosks gives as change. He pretty much says I can tell you bought a ticket cause you have that dollar piece and says to avoid any issues get a one way on my way home. I get to the arena and guess what else I lost, my ticket to the game. So I had to wait for 10 minutes to get that mess cleared up but I made it in to the party. Just goes to show having a negative attitude about anything can really alter your day in a hurry. I had a good time at the party left and chanced it and didn’t get a ticket for the ride home and was left alone and made it home no problems. Just a friendly reminder to keep the PMA all day.

The past month
November was blogfest month. A small group of people banded together to blog everyday for the month. I was surprised to learn new things about friends who I thought I knew a lot about. I also learned a great deal about myself. I have the bar set too high for myself. I fully expect everything I do to be amazing and settling for good is the hardest thing for me to do. I kind of gave up on blogfest after 23 days. It was wrecking me mentally not being able to be as awesome as I wanted to be. For those who know me, can agree I am probably the most stubborn ass on the planet. This generally leads to me rarely giving up on anything. But I felt the pressure was just too much for me. Sometimes you just need to know when to give something up. I am going to try to blog at least 3 times a week from here on out. I expect you to keep me honest in this.
